TOWSON, MD—Eastern Technical High School junior Foresight Ogungbe has been elected as the Student Member of the Board of Education of Baltimore County (SMOB) for the 2025-2026 school year. Ogungbe will represent the student body’s interests during her one-year term, beginning July 1, 2025.
Over 6,700 middle and high school students across Baltimore County participated in the election held on April 24, marking the sixth year of full student participation in selecting their representative. Ogungbe ran against Sophie Vijayan of Towson High School.
Prior to voting, students were able to learn more about the candidates by viewing their video question-and-answer sessions, recorded speeches, and online campaigns. Ogungbe’s platform emphasized key issues like school safety, mental health support, educational equity, and increased student representation.
Active in her school community, Ogungbe participates in several organizations, including the Academy of Health Professions magnet program, the Class of 2026 (as president), the African Student Association (as vice president), and the Black Student Union (as vice president). Her leadership extends beyond Eastern Tech to the county level, where she serves as vice president of Baltimore County Student Councils and chair of the Board of Selected Students.
Ogungbe’s impressive record also includes statewide roles, including being the sole student member on the Maryland Center for School Safety’s School Safety Subcabinet and acting as a liaison between MCSS and the Maryland Association of Student Councils. In 2024, she was appointed to the 24-member Maryland Youth Advisory Council by the speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates.
Ogungbe will succeed Ugonma Chike-Kalu, a senior at Western School of Technology, at the end of Chike-Kalu’s term in May.
