PERRY HALL, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks and School Board member Julie Henn on Thursday announced a series of improvements to Gunpowder Elementary School’s play areas as the school prepares for its Unity Day commemoration in late May.
Baltimore County Public Schools officials have fenced off the playground and started to dig out for new footers to replace the damaged property equipment.
Baltimore County’s Office of Property Management has replaced boards on the bleachers.
Over the next two weeks, in conjunction with the Department of Recreation and Parks, Property Management will get the tennis posts resecured and a new tennis net installed. The net on the court closest to the school is also being replaced as it is worn and dated.
The playground is named in honor of Officer Amy Caprio, murdered in May 2018 while patrolling the area.
“I truly appreciate all the work being done to improve this area, which is used by students and nearby residents alike,” said Councilman Marks.
“I truly appreciate the efforts of Team BCPS to maintain a safe and beautiful outdoor play area for Gunpowder’s students and their responsiveness addressing concerns,” Henn added.
