Governor Moore appoints Maricela Cordova to MDTA Board

BALTIMORE, MD—Governor Wes Moore announced the appointment of Maricela Cordova to the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Board at the board’s most recent meeting. Cordova, who currently serves as the special assistant to the director for transportation strategic projects with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, will bring over 30 years of experience in the transportation sector to the role.

“Maricela Cordova’s extensive background and proven track record in the transportation sector make her the perfect candidate to serve this important role on the MDTA Board,” said Governor Moore. “Her leadership skills and innovative thinking will be an asset to the Board and to all Marylanders.”

The MDTA Board oversees the financing, construction, operation, and improvement of the state’s toll facilities and toll roads. The MDTA is financed by toll revenue without relying on state tax dollars.

Cordova boasts a diverse career in architecture, engineering, and construction. Her previous roles include acting deputy director of transportation policy, acting division chief of transportation engineering, and Purple Line implementation manager for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation. She was also a senior manager of design, preconstruction and project development with Clark Construction Group, LLC.

Paul J. Wiedefeld, MDTA Chairman and Maryland Transportation Secretary, welcomed Maricela Cordova to the Maryland Transportation Authority Board. “Her knowledge of design, construction and project delivery will greatly benefit the Board’s work, and her strategic vision will help us navigate the complex transportation challenges and opportunities we face.”

Cordova expressed enthusiasm for her new role. “I am honored to receive this appointment by Governor Moore,” she said. “I am eager to collaborate on Maryland’s most important projects and priorities, and I am committed to advancing the board’s values of integrity, transparency, and efficiency.”

The Maryland Transportation Authority Board comprises eight citizens appointed by the governor for four-year terms. Members are limited to three consecutive terms.
