BALTIMORE, MD—The Baltimore Orioles will recognize the accomplishments of the University of Maryland Terrapins’ men’s and women’s basketball teams during the club’s Home Opener on Monday, March 31, 2025.
From the men’s team, the Orioles will welcome Baltimore’s own Derik Queen and Julian Reese, and from the women’s team, Maryland-native Allie Kubek and senior star Shyanne Sellers. Kubek, Queen, Reese, and Sellers will each simultaneously throw a ceremonial first pitch. Queen and Sellers will also serve as the first Guest Splashers of the season in the expanded Bird Bath Splash Zone.
Queen and Reese most recently helped lead the Terps’ men’s team to a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA Tournament. Queen famously secured the win for the Terps with a buzzer-beater against Colorado State. Despite being eliminated from the tournament, Queen’s legacy in our community will remain, as he proudly exclaimed, “I’m from Baltimore. That’s why,” when asked where his confidence came from during a postgame interview. The women’s team, with stars Kubek and Sellers, faced off against the reigning champion South Carolina Gamecocks last night, ultimately being defeated in the Sweet 16 matchup. This marked the first time the Maryland men’s and women’s teams both advanced to the Sweet 16 round.
The Orioles will usher in a new season of baseball in Baltimore as they host the Boston Red Sox at 3:05 p.m. ET, with ceremonies beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Traffic modifications have been announced in Baltimore for opening day.
