Forecasters warn of elevated threat for rapid fire spread in Baltimore area on Tuesday

BALTIMORE, MD—Forecasters say there is an elevated threat for rapid fire spread throughout the Baltimore area on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement indicating that dry conditions and gusty winds will overspread the region on Tuesday. Little to no rainfall was observed on Monday to the north and west of I-95, and conditions have been dry throughout the area over the past week.

The combination of these relatively dry conditions, relative humidity falling to around 20-25 percent, and sustained westerly winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts to around 20-25 mph, will result in an elevated threat for the rapid spread of fires through 7 p.m. on March 25, 2025.

Residents should refer to their local burn permitting authorities on whether they may burn outdoors. Anyone who does burn should use extreme caution since fires can quickly grow out of control under these conditions.
