BCPS celebrates its 2024-25 winter athletics state champions

TOWSON, MD—The Baltimore County Public Schools winter athletics season produced multiple state champions, including a fifth consecutive title for the Pikesville High School girls basketball team.

The Pikesville girls, led by Coach Michael Dukes, are the first girls basketball program in Baltimore County to reach five total state championships, according to a release from the school system.

Other notable achievements from the season include a second consecutive state title for Woodlawn High School girls indoor track & field and back-to-back undefeated seasons for Perry Hall High School wrestler Victor Marks-Jenkins, the release also said.

Marks-Jenkins won the 175-pound Co-Ed Wrestling state title. Wyatt Rossi of Sparrows Point High School won the 105-pound Co-Ed Wrestling state title.

Hereford High School also had a strong showing in the state championships, with Sylvia Snider winning the 1600m and 3200m runs in Class 2A, and Maddie Drylie taking home the pole vault title in the same class.

Woodlawn High School’s Destiny Coleman won the 55m run in Class 4A, and was also part of the winning 4x200m relay team alongside Kenya Merritt, Jordan Christie, and Anjela Fitzhugh.

Randallstown High School’s Danielle Perez won the 300m run in Class 2A.



Western School of Technology’s Elijah Smith won the Boys Shot Put Class 1A title, and Oluwadamilare Idowu of Randallstown High School won the Girls Wrestling 105lbs title.

Towson High School’s boys’ 4x800m relay team, composed of Jack Dobrosielski, John Fields, Theodore Brown, and Evan Cline, also secured a state championship.

Michael Sye, director of the BCPS Department of Athletics, expressed joy at seeing so many Baltimore County student athletes performing at a high level, according to the release. “Athletics programs provide students with crucial life skills that will guide them throughout their lives, both on and off the court.
