Maryland Youth Fishing Rodeo schedule set for 2025 season

BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites young anglers ages 3 to 15 to participate in the 2025 Maryland Youth Fishing Rodeos. Fifty-one free events will be offered across 16 counties throughout the state, starting in spring and continuing until late fall.

The annual rodeos, some dating back over 60 years, aim to introduce youth to fishing, improve angling skills, and promote environmental stewardship. Events, held in partnership with local organizations, take place at various locations, including Maryland State Parks and other public lands.

The program received support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program and drew over 3,300 young participants in 2024.

While all rodeos are free, attendance may be limited at certain venues. DNR encourages those interested to visit their website for a full schedule of events, registration details, and contact information. The website will also provide updates on any cancellations or reschedulings.

Children under 16 years of age do not require a fishing license. Adults and teens can get a license online or at license agent locations. Funds generated from license sales, as well as the purchase of fishing tackle, ammunition, boats, and marine fuel, support fish and wildlife conservation efforts in Maryland.
