ANNAPOLIS, MD—The Maryland Freedom Caucus is calling on all Marylanders to join them for a Tax Revolt Rally and Day of Action on March 19, 2025, at Lawyers’ Mall in Annapolis and take a stand against the onslaught of tax increases being proposed in the General Assembly this year.
“No Marylander will be untouched by the sheer number of tax increases moving through the legislature right now,” said Delegate Matt Morgan, Chair of the Maryland Freedom Caucus. “From new delivery taxes to increased fees, a massive business-to-business services tax, and even a property tax hike, working families, small businesses, and retirees will all be paying more if we don’t stop these taxes and fees. This rally is about giving the people of Maryland a voice.”
The rally will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Lawyers’ Mall in Annapolis. Attendees are encouraged to participate in grassroots lobbying at the House and Senate office buildings from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. to meet with their legislators and urge them to vote “NO” on the tax hikes.
“We are urging Marylanders to show up and make their voices heard. These tax increases impact everyone—families, workers, and job creators, and seniors on a fixed income. If we don’t push back, Annapolis politicians will continue to take more of your money year after year,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga, Vice Chair of the Maryland Freedom Caucus. “This is a peaceful rally for the people to send a strong message: We can’t afford more taxes.”
The Maryland Freedom Caucus strongly opposes any effort to impose additional taxes on hardworking Marylanders—taxes that will only drive businesses, families, and retirees out of the state. According to the Tax Foundation’s 2025 State Tax Competitiveness Index, Maryland ranks a dismal 46th out of 50 states, while neighboring Virginia ranks 28th, Pennsylvania 29th, and Florida—widely recognized as a model for economic growth—ranks 4th.
The sheer number of tax hikes currently under consideration would cost Marylanders billions of dollars, placing an unbearable financial burden on residents already struggling with rising costs and sky-high energy bills.
“We know that when Marylanders stand together, we can make a difference,” said Delegate Matt Morgan. “The time to act is now.”
