Governor Moore signs MOUs with first responder unions

ANNAPOLIS, MD—In a show of support for first responders, Governor Wes Moore signed three memoranda of understanding (MOU) with labor unions representing firefighters and police officers in Maryland. The agreements, signed on March 13, 2025, guarantee benefits and reaffirm the state’s commitment to organized labor.

The MOUs were signed with the BWI Airport Professional Firefighters-International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1742, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34-Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MDTA/FOP), and the State Law Enforcement Officers Labor Alliance (SLEOLA).

“At a time when we are watching attacks on public sector workers, in Maryland we are protecting our people,” said Governor Moore during the signing ceremony. He emphasized the importance of supporting firefighters and police officers by ensuring they receive their earned benefits.

Union leaders expressed gratitude for the agreements. Christian Rejonis, President of BWI Airport Professional Firefighters- IAFF Local 1742, thanked Governor Moore and his administration for securing a contract during challenging financial times.

Jim Kruszynski, President of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34, praised Governor Moore for his commitment to open and transparent communication throughout the negotiation process.

The signing ceremony was attended by leaders and members of the respective unions, along with Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Carolyn J. Scruggs and Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Samantha Biddle.
