EDGEWOOD, MD—Crews responded to an apartment fire in Edgewood on Saturday night.
At around 10:15 p.m. on March 16, 2025, units responded to an apartment fire in the 1700-block of Crimson Tree Way.
Units arrived to find flames showing from the two-story four-unit structure.
The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal reports that the 71-year-old occupant of one of the apartments discovered a fire on top of his stove. He attempted to extinguish the fire, but it grew beyond his control. He escaped by opening the sliding door and walking onto the balcony, where neighbors told him to jump. He eventually was able to jump off.
Harford County Department of Emergency Services later transported him to Hopkins Bayview with burns to 20-30% of his body. He is currently admitted and listed in stable condition.
Five other occupants within the additional units are displaced and are being assisted by friends, family, and Harford County Disaster Assistance. Firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the fire to the unit of origin with moderate smoke, soot, and water damage to the adjacent units.
It took 35 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to control the blaze.
