WHITE MARSH, MD—The Baltimore County Public Library’s White Marsh Branch will soon close temporarily for upgrades and renovations.
The renovations will begin on Monday, March 31, 2025. The branch is temporarily closing after business hours on Saturday, March 29th. The returns box will also close at this time. Full operations are expected to resume in late summer.
Any holds not picked up before closing on Saturday, March 29 will be transferred to the Perry Hall Branch. Customers are encouraged to visit Perry Hall Branch (9685 Honeygo Boulevard), Rosedale Branch (6105 Kenwood Avenue) or any of our other locations. The digital library at https://www.bcpl.info will remain available to customers 24/7.
White Marsh Branch services such as notary services are also offered at Essex and Owings Mills branches. Passport services are still available at Arbutus and Towson branches by appointment.
21st century updates of the White Marsh Branch include:
- Creating a more welcoming meeting room entrance by removing the existing hallway wall.
- Updating meeting room flooring, lighting and paint.
- Installing new state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment in the meeting room.
- Expanding and modernizing restroom facilities, including a family restroom and an adult changing station.
- Replacing entrance flooring.
- Enhancing the children’s section with interactive play elements, tables and seating for early childhood and tweens.
- Adding a two-sided LED full-color electronic messaging and monument sign along Honeygo Boulevard.
“Our library branches must evolve with modern technology and features to meet the changing needs of our customers,” said Baltimore County Public Library CEO Sonia Alcántara-Antoine. From quiet study spaces to vibrant meeting areas for gathering and creating, our branches must be flexible, adaptable, accessible and inclusive—creating libraries that not only meet the needs of the 21st century but also inspire and empower generations to come.”
The current estimate of the upgrades is $740,000, which will come from Baltimore County Government and library fund balance. Children’s area improvements are being funded through Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library and its generous donors.
“Every community deserves a state-of-the-art library and these amenities will be welcomed in the White March community,” said Councilman David Marks on Wednesday.
The 15,000-square-foot White Marsh Branch was built in 1988 and serves over 100,000 customers annually. It last received a minor renovation in 2014. The branch is hosting a day-long “See You Soon” celebration on Saturday, March 29, featuring an animal show with Eco Adventures, crafts and other fun activities for children and their caregivers.
