High-ranking MS-13 leader arrested in Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD—A high-ranking leader in the MS-13 transnational terrorist organization was arrested in Hyattsville, Maryland last month, according to authorities.

David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, 27, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI on February 27, 2025. He is charged in his home country with possession of firearm, extortion, and terrorist affiliation, ICE said in a press release.

Orellana controlled the operation of MS-13 cliques in the United States, Mexico, and Europe, authorities said.

“The apprehension of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman strikes a significant blow to the leadership and organization of the MS-13 terrorist organization,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations acting Field Office Director Matthew Elliston. “This arrest speaks volumes about the cooperation enjoyed between ICE and the FBI. We will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our communities.”

Salvadoran authorities arrested Orellana on December 1, 2016, for possession of a firearm, extortion, and documented MS-13 gang affiliation.

Orellana illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and location, according to ICE.

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested Orellana December 9, 2024, and charged him for driving without a license.

Orellana remains in ICE custody following his arrest.
