Elevated fire risk in Maryland on Tuesday, strong storms possible on Wednesday

BALTIMORE, MD—Marylanders should keep an eye on the weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, forecasters say low humidity and gusty south to southeasterly winds will bring a greater risk of adverse fire behavior and rapid fire spread, mostly from late Tuesday morning through late Tuesday afternoon.

Relative humidity values will drop to 20 to 30 percent, with south to southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 20 to 25 mph.

Residents should refer to their local burn permitting authorities on whether they may burn outdoors on Tuesday.  Residents who do burn should use extreme caution since fires can increasingly escalate under these conditions.

On Wednesday, March 5, isolated severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail are possible. An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out, according to forecasters.

Strong winds, including gale conditions, are possible Wednesday afternoon, and again on Thursday behind a strong cold front.

Gale Warnings are in effect for all area waters on Wednesday.
