Edgewood man sentenced to 65 years for Harford Mall shooting

EDGEWOOD, MD—An Edgewood man has been sentenced to prison after he opened fire at Harford Mall last year.

Wesley Lyons Jr., 35, was sentenced to 65 years in prison on Thursday in Harford County Circuit Court for his involvement in a shooting at Harford Mall during his child’s birthday party last June.

Lyons was convicted in December by a jury on charges including attempted second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and several firearm offenses.

Prosecutors, who sought a 93-year sentence, pointed to Lyons’ prior criminal history, including an armed robbery conviction from 2009 and pending charges related to guns and drugs.

Judge Adkins-Tobin handed down a sentence of 93 years with all but 65 years suspended.

According to court documents, the shooting followed a dispute at the Harford Bounce Party Place located in the mall. Lyons is said to have drawn a handgun equipped with an extended magazine from his waistband, firing five shots. The gunfire wounded a man, striking him in the upper left thigh, groin, and a finger. Authorities reported that the victim has since recovered from his injuries.
