NOW YOU KNOW: Proposal for a new library in Middle River

The following is an editorial piece from Delegates Ryan Nawrocki and Kathy Szeliga.

As Maryland state delegates for nearly all of Middle River, we strongly support the proposal for a new Baltimore County library in our community. This project is essential for addressing the growing need for educational, cultural, and community resources.

Libraries play a vital role in connecting people and fostering community. As Middle River continues to grow, the demand for library services is increasing. The new library will serve as a hub for workshops, cultural events, and community meetings, providing a shared space for learning and connection.

The proposed library will be located in the Greenleigh area, near Maryland Route 43. One key benefit of this project is that much of the funding will come from the private sector, a significant advantage given the current budget constraints at the county and state levels. This library will promote literacy, innovation, and lifelong learning.

We represent several communities, including Parkville, Perry Hall, and White Marsh, each of which has its own public library. Middle River, with its population of over 33,000, deserves a library to serve as a community focal point and resource.

The new library will offer a wide range of services, from educational programs and job training to activities for children. Unlike community centers or parks, libraries provide unique opportunities for connection and growth.

As state delegates, we are committed to supporting this project. We will work closely with Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, who has been a strong advocate for the library, to ensure it becomes a reality.

The new library will provide educational programs for all ages, from early literacy for children to adult education and job training. It will also serve as a cultural and social hub, hosting events like author readings, art exhibitions, and music performances while offering meeting spaces for local organizations.

In providing a safe, welcoming environment, the new Middle River library will help people access the resources they need to improve their lives.
