NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Friday released new statistics from the Baltimore County Police Department that show the need to reduce crashes and re-engineer Silver Spring Road.
Councilman Marks requested the data after a series of crashes in the Manorfield Road area.
The number of crashes increased from 55 in 2023 to 63 by the end of 2024, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. Altogether, there were 118 crashes over two years, 21 of which involved injury to individuals.
“Silver Spring Road was engineered in the 1980s to move a high volume of traffic to White Marsh Mall,” said Councilman Marks. “It’s become a speedway, and since police cannot possible patrol every part off the corridor all the time, it’s time to consider re-engineering the road to slow speeds and improve safety.”
Councilman Marks is actively discussing options with community leaders and the Department of Public Works and Transportation.
“I encourage residents along this corridor to attend the budget Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, March 19th at Perry Hall High School at 6 p.m. to support funding to advance safety options for this corridor,” Councilman Marks concluded.
Details on the Town Hall meeting can be found online here.
