BALTIMORE, MD—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is calling on wildlife photographers to participate in its inaugural waterfowl photo contest. The winning photograph will be featured on the new DNR hard card hunting and fishing licenses set to be released later this year. The contest closes on March 31, 2025.
The new hard card licenses, resembling credit cards, will be available as part of DNR’s new licensing and registration portal launching in Spring 2025. These limited-edition collector’s items will serve as durable alternatives to traditional paper licenses.
In addition to gracing hunting and fishing licenses, the winning photo will appear in DNR’s 2026 calendar and possibly win prizes in DNR’s annual photo contest, including the $700 top prize.
The waterfowl photo contest replaces the Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp Design Contest, which concluded in 2023 with the discontinuation of the physical waterfowl stamp.
Photographers can enter the contest with a $10 fee. Contest rules and submission guidelines are available on the DNR website. All entries will be automatically entered into the 2025 DNR Photo Contest, with details about that contest to be released later this year.
