74-year-old woman dies in Dundalk house fire

DUNDALK, MD—A 74-year-old woman died in a one-alarm Dundalk house fire on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Janet Pereira, of the 1800-block of Marshall Road in Dundalk.



At just after 11:45 a.m. on January 22, 2025, crews responded to the 1800-block of Marshall Road for a report of a dwelling fire. Units arrived and found fire coming from the front of the home.

Crews learned that a female occupant was unaccounted for and began to search for her. The victim was found minutes later on the first floor of the home, deceased.

Investigated have ruled this an accidental fire caused by the failure of an electrical extension cord. The home did not have working smoke detectors.

One firefighter suffered minor burns while extinguishing the fire.
