Special Weather Statement issued for Baltimore area ahead of weekend snowfall

BALTIMORE, MD—Another round of wintry weather is set to move through the Baltimore area, but this time the snowfall accumulations should be on the lighter side.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Baltimore area.

Light to locally moderate snow will move across eastern West Virginia, northern and central Virginia, and western and central Maryland late Friday night and into early Saturday morning.

Snow will move into the southern Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia between 7 to 9 p.m. before advancing north and east toward northern Virginia and central Maryland between 9 to 11 p.m.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected with air temperatures in the low to mid 20s and snowfall rates of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour. Visibility may drop to one mile at times with light winds expected.

It is recommended to delay any travel that is not necessary between midnight and 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Snowfall will move out of the area between 5 and 8 a.m. on Saturday with improving conditions Saturday afternoon as high temperatures climb back above freezing.

Storm total snow accumulations of a 1 to 2 inches are possible with locally heavier amounts along and east of US-15.
