Winter storm threat increases for Sunday night into Monday in Maryland

UPDATE: A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Baltimore area as up to 10 inches of snow are possible in some areas.

BALTIMORE, MD—The threat of a potentially significant snow storm in the Baltimore area has increased, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say a strong area of low pressure will bring an elevated winter storm threat to the region late Sunday into Monday.

There is increasing confidence with regard to potential travel impacts and closures, especially for the Monday commutes.

Winter Storm Watches, advisories, and storm totals will likely be issued later on Friday.



Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Friday in Baltimore area as a line a snow squalls is expected to move through the area on Friday afternoon.  Baltimore County Public Schools have announced that they will dismiss two hours early on January 3rd.
