BALTIMORE, MD—A Perry Hall man has been sentenced to four years of supervised probation after being found guilty of assaulting an intellectually disabled resident at a Baltimore group home.
Omubo Micah, 55, was convicted of second-degree assault in December for the April 2024 incident at Creative Options, Inc., a housing facility for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities located on the 6100 block of Eastern Parkway.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Micah was the caregiver for the victim, who was seen on security camera footage throwing a chicken bone over the fence into a neighbor’s yard. Micah then came up behind the victim, grabbed him by the shirt, and threw him inside. The footage showed Micah hitting the victim in the head and throwing punches at him as they moved out of the camera’s view.
“People with intellectual disabilities are some of the most vulnerable residents of our State,” said Attorney General Anthony Brown. “They rely on their caregivers for help to complete essential, daily tasks. They deserve to feel safe and supported by their caregivers, not fear them. Violence against any Marylander – especially members of marginalized communities – will not be tolerated.”
Judge Yolanda Tanner of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City sentenced Micah to five years suspended in favor of four years of supervised probation. During his probation, Micah must complete an anger management program and is prohibited from providing direct care to vulnerable adults and working for any healthcare provider who receives state or federal funds.
