Student charged following assault at Essex school

ESSEX, MD—One student has been charged following an assault at a middle school in Essex.

On Monday, December 16, a student at Stemmers Run Middle School was assaulted with a pair of scissors.

The Baltimore County Police Department tells NottinghamMD.com that a student sustained a laceration to the upper body following an altercation with another student. The school nurse provided medical care to the student who sustained the injury.

The other student was charged at the Essex Precinct.



The following communication was sent to parents and families:

Dear Parents and Guardians of Stemmers Run:

I want to inform you of an incident that occurred this afternoon. Administration was informed that a student engaged in highly inappropriate behavior and assaulted another student with a pair of scissors. School administration was notified and responded to the classroom to assist, and the student was removed. The injured student was seen by our school nurse.

We understand this incident was upsetting for students who witnessed this incident, and we wanted to make you aware of the situation.

The safety of our students is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a positive learning environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
