Councilman Marks secures funding to improve Cottington Road safety

NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Friday announced that improvements will be made to the southern part of Cottington Road near Silver Spring Road to improve safety along the busy corridor.

Councilman Marks asked the Department of Public Works and Transportation to review this area after numerous complaints from residents. Councilman Marks has also asked for a similar assessment of the nearby Silver Spring Road corridor.

The $65,000 project recommended by engineers involves a new raised pedestrian crosswalk to be constructed at Yvonne Avenue, and three speed bumps to located between Yvonne Avenue and Silver Spring Road. The improvements will be made depending on the weather.

“There are limited options to reduce speeds along this corridor,” said Councilman Marks. “According to state law, speed cameras can only be erected near school zones, and the police cannot be deployed here all the time for enforcement. This plan will hopefully reduce the likelihood of crashes and deaths on a very busy corridor.”

Residents can request traffic calming online here.
