TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski on Tuesday submitted his letter of resignation.
His resignation will be effective on January 3, 2025, after being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
The letter reads as follows:
Exactly six yeas ago today, I was honored to fist take the oath of office to serve as our fourteenth County Executive — enabled by the trust that the people of Baltimore County placed in me. To this day, I remain deeply thankful tall our residents for this incredible privilege.
‘Together, we embarked on an ambitious journey to build a better Baltimore County — and to usher in anew era of leadership. We embraced data-driven governance to deliver high-quality, modern services for our neighbors. We reinvigorated how the government operates, weaving the values of equity and sustainability into the very fabric of our administration. We strengthened our local democracy by adding 2 public funding option for elections and expanding the size of the County Council. We transformed Baltimore County into a model of open, accountable, and accessible government. And we did all oft in partnership.
In the course of that work, we delivered transformative and long-awaited projects in every community. We invested over a billion dollar in new school buildings, in our roadays in our parks and recreation centers, and in our greenspaces and waterways. We made strategic investments in public safety and public services, which have made all of our neighborhoods safer. We dial of this, and so much more, even as we also faced a sees of historic challenges, including a hidden budget deficit, the COVID- 19 global public health crisis that threatened our very way of life and the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. We were able to overcome all these obstacles — and innumerable others — through sustained collaboration, mutual trust, and an unwavering belief in the government’s ability to be a force for good. I have loved every single day in this office.
It is with mixed emotions that, following my successful election to the United States House of Representatives, I hereby submit my resignation as Baltimore County Executive, effective Friday, January 3, 2025 at 9 a.m.
It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as your County Executive. I am confident that our best days remain ahead and I look forward to continued service alongside each of you as we keep, supporting the people of this great county for years to come.
Sincerely,
John A. Olszewski, J.
