NOTTINGHAM, MD—Baltimore County Councilman David Marks honored the staff and older campers from Camp Rock for their heroic actions last August when they helped save someone who needed help in the woods near the Rock Church in Parkville.
“While completing outdoor activity rotations at the end of the day, a small group of our oldest campers went hiking in the woods. While walking toward the stream, the group spotted an older man lying down in the brush and radioed this back to the other staff,” said Julie Traut, director of Camp Rock. “A few of the staff went to see if the man needed help and determined that he looked like he needed medical attention, so we called first responders to help him. The emergency workers’ response resulted in some roads being shut down and a command station being set up at Loch Raven High School.
“It turns out that a Silver Alert had been issued for this man and that he had been missing from his family for several days out in the elements. That weekend, it had rained very hard for several days. The first responders later told us that if we had not found him and called for help, he may not have made it much longer. He was taken to the hospital where he was able to be reunited with family and recover,” Traut concluded.
“I was honored to recognize these outstanding ‘Good Samaritans’,” Councilman Marks added, presenting each with a Baltimore County Council resolution. “Their service and heroism may have saved this person’s life.”
