BALTIMORE, MD—The first significant winter weather system of the year will move through Maryland this weekend.
In western Maryland, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Garrett County, as heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are possible, with 1 to 2 feet possible locally along the ridgetops. Winds will be gusting as high as 45 mph on Friday afternoon and into Friday night.
The National Weather Service says the worst conditions will occur with the heavy snow on Friday. Conditions will be hazardous with visibilities dropping to 1/4-mile at times. Travel could be difficult to impossible.
In the Baltimore area, a dusting of snow is possible on Friday, mostly on grassy areas. No major accumulations are expected at this time, but it could mark the first snowfall of the fall/winter season.
