BALTIMORE, MD—The first major winter storm of the season is set to move into western Maryland, and some flurries are possible in the Baltimore area as well.
In western Maryland, the watch will be in effect from Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning, with snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected. Higher amounts are possible in some locations. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are also possible.
Visibilities may drop below 1/4-mile at times due to falling and blowing snow. This may lead to whiteout conditions and may make travel difficult. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
Temperatures near the freezing mark may even bring some light snow showers to northern Baltimore County on Friday morning. Little to no accumulation is expected.
