Rocky Point Golf Course Clubhouse to undergo major renovation, expansion

ESSEX, MD—The Rocky Point Golf Course clubhouse will undergo a significant expansion and renovation, Baltimore County officials announced this week.

The 1971 clubhouse will be transformed into a more modern and contemporary space with approximately 12,000 square feet.

The $8.25 million project will be funded by Baltimore County and the Baltimore County Revenue Authority.

The project will feature a new commercial kitchen, a 180-person event space, a 24-30 seat mixed grille area, new restrooms, a pro shop, and storage for 75 golf carts.

“We are committed to delivering world-class opportunities for our residents to play, compete, and explore Baltimore County’s natural beauty — especially along our scenic and historic eastern waterfronts,” Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said in a statement. “Working alongside the Baltimore County Revenue Authority, this exciting renovation to the Rocky Point Clubhouse will ensure our beloved public golf course continues to be a regional gem where athletes and enthusiasts of all ages can learn the sport, build new connections with their community, and enjoy all that Baltimore County has to offer.”

The new facilities will provide an indoor, conditioned space with catering services for the current golfing community and event sponsors at Rocky Point. Outside groups and individuals may use the new clubhouse when not in conflict with golf events.

“Thanks to all that took part in the decision to move forward with this project, and especially to the County Executive for his dedicated and tireless support and vision, without which this project would not have happened,” Baltimore County Revenue Authority Board Chair Steven Thomas said in a statement. “Everyone will now be able to enjoy Rocky Point and its spectacular location. It is truly a great day for the east side of Baltimore County and for Rocky Point.”

The Rocky Point Golf Course clubhouse, the last of four to be improved, stands at one of the region’s busiest public golf courses, officials said.

The golf course hosts approximately 42,000 rounds annually, including 5,500 sponsored by community-based nonprofit organizations for fundraising.

Work is expected to begin shortly after the groundbreaking and is expected to take 10 months to complete.
