Over 5,500 warnings issued to drivers illegally passing school buses in Baltimore County, close call caught on video

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County’s new school bus camera safety program is already proving to be fruitful.

As of this week, police say over 5,500 warnings have been issued to drivers illegally passing school buses in Baltimore County.

Motorists caught passing a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing can expect to receive a $250 citation beginning November 4, 2024.

“Keeping our students safe is a priority for all of us in Baltimore County — and we are excited for the opportunity to use new data and technology to ensure that children can travel to and from school in safety,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski back in August. “Thanks to the partnership between our police, public school system, and AngelTrax, this initiative will enable Baltimore County to cite reckless drivers and make our roadways and communities safer for all residents.”

Each citation will be verified by AngelTrax and reviewed, verified, and approved by an employee of the Baltimore County Police Department. Following that review, citations will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. No points are associated with the issuance of a citation.
