Perry Hall staffing agency owners charged in $10 million tax evasion scheme

PERRY HALL, MD—A federal grand jury has charged two Maryland staffing agency owners with failing to pay at least $10 million in employment taxes, officials say.

Jeannette Gomez, 54, and Edgar Gomez, 51, both of Perry Hall, were indicted on October 2 for failure to report and pay employment taxes accrued pursuant to their interest in SND Services, LLC and related entities, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Prosecutors say the defendants owned and operated several companies that provided temporary staffing services, including SND Services, LLC and SND Services Inc.

According to the indictment, the companies issued W-2 tax forms to employees and withheld federal income taxes and Social Security and Medicare taxes from their wages, but failed to pay the total withheld to the IRS.

Officials estimate the defendants failed to pay over $10,476,696 in employment taxes.

Prosecutors allege that the defendants diverted the funds withheld in trust for their personal use, including to buy homes that cost more than $1 million and luxury vehicles that cost more than $200,000.

If convicted, the defendants face up to five years in federal prison.

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division investigated the case.
