Dr. Lucy Wilson named new Baltimore County Health Officer

TOWSON, MD—Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski and Maryland Department of Health Secretary Dr. Laura Herrera Scott on Wednesday announced that Dr. Lucy Wilson has been named the county’s new Health Officer and Director of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Wilson, who has served in a number of high-profile public health roles in Maryland, including most recently as the state’s medical adviser during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been with the Maryland Department of Health for more than a decade, serving in a number of leadership positions and public health advisory roles.

In a statement, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said that Wilson’s extensive experience and commitment to addressing the needs of residents during the COVID-19 pandemic made her the ideal choice for the role of health officer.

“I am excited to see how her leadership will help keep Baltimore County healthy and thriving for future generations,” Olszewski said.

The appointment of Wilson will need to be confirmed by a majority of the Baltimore County Council. If confirmed, she will take over the position of health officer and director of the county’s Department of Health and Human Services.

“I am honored to work with County Executive Olszewski, Baltimore County leaders, and my DHHS colleagues to address critical public health issues across our communities,” said Dr. Wilson. “I’m eager to get to work ensuring equitable, high-quality public health services, using innovative, person-centered approaches, and improving health and quality of life outcomes for all Baltimore County residents.”
