TOWSON, MD—The College of Health Professions building at Towson University has officially opened, bringing with it 10 specialty labs, 10 patient exam rooms, and eight speech and audiology research labs.
The building also has a 350-seat auditorium with three different screen monitors and two entry levels.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
In one of the building’s specialty rooms, occupational therapists will have the opportunity to use swings, which could be used as a form of physical therapy for patients with disabilities or those who have experienced trauma.
“There is also equipment in the back that they bring out that can be used for children with disabilities or if they’ve had some kind of injury or trauma to help them work through their motor skills and do therapy with them in a play-like setting,” said Dennis Shepard, the outreach, marketing, and events coordinator for the College of Health Professions.
The building’s design allows for natural light and ventilation, and features a rooftop garden space.
“It’s huge,” said Susan Casciani, senior lecturer and internship coordinator for the Health Care Management department. “The interior has an absolutely huge atrium and lots and lots of light.”
“My favorite part of the building are all of the spaces that are available throughout the building for people to just sit, relax and be together,” she added.
