PIKESVILLE, MD—A 76-year-old man died on Wednesday in a two-alarm Baltimore County house fire.
The victim is Thomas Poe, of the 500-block of Shamrock Lane in Pikesville.
Fire crews responded to the 500-block of Shamrock Lane at just before 9:30 p.m. on September 4 for a report of a dwelling fire with rescue. Units arrived four minutes later and found fire coming from the home.
Firefighters entered the home to search for the resident and found him suffering from cardiac arrest in a second-floor bedroom. Crews removed him from the home, and EMS personnel immediately began resuscitative efforts.
He was transported to Northwest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A female occupant of the home was able to escape the fire without injury.
BCoPD fire investigators have ruled this an accidental fire caused by an electrical malfunction. This is the tenth fire fatality in 2024.
