JOPPA, MD—A construction worker was flown to Shock Trauma following an industrial accident in Joppa on Tuesday morning.
At around 10 a.m. on September 3, units from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and the Harford County Department of Emergency Services Special Operations Team responded after a construction worker fell into a confined space and was injured in the 1400-block of Philadelphia Road.
Upon arrival, units found a concrete truck that had tipped over causing the worker to fall into the foundation area of home that was under construction.
Rescue squads from the Aberdeen Fire Department and the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, along with the special operations team from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department (which was in the area for training) responded to assist with stabilizing the vehicle for extraction.
The adult male was removed from the space in serious condition and flown by Maryland State Police – Aviation Command to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The exact cause of the accident is under investigation by the Maryland Department of Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH).
