JOPPA, MD—Crews responded to a house fire in the Joppa area on Saturday.
At around 11:45 a.m. on July 27, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 2400-block of Woodlea Drive.
Officials say a 34-year-old female occupant was sleeping in the basement when she was awakened by a neighbor banging on the door. She was able to escape with the family cat without injury. She was later transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Two other adult occupants were not home when the fire broke out.
It took 40 firefighters about 15 minutes to control the blaze. The fire caused about $150,000 in damages and two nearby vehicles also sustained heavy damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The fire began on an exterior side porch. The cause remains under investigation.
