Middle River resident wins two-night trip to St. Michaels

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—Orville Horton likes to travel all over the country, including a cruise to Alaska last September. The Middle River resident says he is excited to pack his bags, having been recently selected as a winner of a two-night getaway to St. Michaels, MD from the Maryland Lottery’s My Lottery Rewards (MLR) program.

The 76-year-old retired from an area furniture manufacturing company in 2011, but returned to work as a consultant two days a week. Orville said that is enough to keep him busy and still leave time for travelling.

Orville and his wife Frances have seen the road signs to St. Michaels during their trips to the Eastern Shore, but never visited the Talbot County town. When he saw that there was a St. Michael’s trip in MLR, he decided to enter his draw points.

“I said to her ‘We need to go to St. Michaels’,” Orville explained.

His plan came to fruition when he and Frederick County resident Suzette Mitchell were both selected as winners in the July 3 drawing.

Orville’s prize includes a two-night stay at The Old Brick Inn in St. Michaels and a resort credit for drinks, dinner or other area activities.

According to Orville, he is a loyal MLR player. He recalls when he earned enough prize points to purchase a TV from the Westinghouse Electric Corporation a long time ago.

“I have been playing since it started,” the Baltimore County man added.

My Lottery Rewards is the Maryland Lottery’s rewards program, which began in 2013. Non-winning scratch-offs, and winning and non-winning draw game and FAST PLAY tickets, can be entered to earn points. Some of those points can then be used to enter promotions to win prizes such as vacations, tech packages, gift cards and more.
