58-year-old man dies in Baltimore County house fire

GWYNN OAK, MD—A 58-year-old man died on Wednesday night in a one-alarm house fire in Baltimore County.

The victim has been identified as Michael James Smith of the 1500-block of Langford Road, Gwynn Oak.



At just after 11:30 p.m. on July 3, crews responded to the 1500-block of Langford Road for a report of an odor of burning.  Units arrived minutes later and found fire visible on the second floor of the home.

During search and rescue operations, crews found Smith in cardiac arrest on the second floor and transferred him to the care of EMS providers. He was transported to St. Agnes Hospital, where doctors provided additional treatment before pronouncing him dead.

The one-alarm fire was placed under control at just before midnight.

Baltimore County Fire Department investigators have ruled the blaze accidental, caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
