Bloomberg Philanthropies launches child poverty innovation team in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, MD—The charitable organization Bloomberg Philanthropies will establish an innovation team to work with the government of Maryland to reduce child poverty.

The State Innovation Team, as it will be called, will be led by a chief innovation officer and will consist of seven other team members who will work across different state agencies to develop plans and initiatives aimed at addressing child poverty in Maryland.

The team will focus on developing new solutions using data analysis, insight development, rapid prototyping, project management and other approaches.

The launch of the State Innovation Team is part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ broader efforts to support innovation and improve public services through its global Government Innovation portfolio and Innovation Team (i-team) program.

“Foundational challenges require innovative solutions,” said Governor Wes Moore. “This new partnership will help us discover new and creative ways to deliver for Marylanders, and continue my administration’s frontal assault on child poverty.”

Bloomberg Philanthropies supports 700 cities and 150 countries around the world, and has invested more than $3 billion in 2023.

The organization believes that the State Innovation Team can help the government of Maryland reach its goal of reducing child poverty and will provide an example of how Bloomberg Philanthropies can support innovative solutions to complex public sector challenges.

The team is currently being recruited. Additional details are available online here.
