Suspected impaired driver crashes into Maryland State Trooper’s patrol car in work zone

BETHESDA, MD—A suspected impaired driver crashed into a Maryland State Trooper’s patrol car early Wednesday morning while the trooper was working in a work zone in Montgomery County, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, along the outer loop of I-495 and Greentree Road in Montgomery County. The work zone was blocked with orange traffic cones, arrow boards, and signs. Nithya Ramani, 37, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, drove into the work zone, according to the preliminary investigation. She hit the right rear of the trooper’s patrol car.



Both cars were towed from the scene. Ramani was arrested on the scene after she showed signs of impairment, according to the news release. She was not taken to the hospital.

The trooper was not injured. The crash is still under investigation.

Ramani has been charged with driving under the influence.
