Essex mom stunned by gift of $50,000-winning scratch-off

ESSEX, MD—A Baltimore County woman is sharing her surprise after winning a $50,000 scratch-off card as a gift from her daughter.

The Essex mom initially believed the $50,000 Gold Rush 7s Tripler instant ticket was a prank, but her daughter was quick to point out a match for the winning number 01.

“I said to her, ‘Are you sure it is real?,'” the retired sales associate said in a news release.

The mother and daughter then went to a Maryland Lottery retailer to scan the card, and sure enough, the $50,000 prize was real.

The mother is considering how she will spend the money, but her daughter says she doesn’t like giving out scratch-offs as gifts because there is always a chance they could lose money.

“She deserves it because she is my mom and she has done a lot for me,” the daughter said with a smile.

The lucky ticket was purchased at the Royal Farms located at 2704 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore.
