ESSEX, MD—A new pavement improvement project will bring delays and overnight closures to MD 702 in eastern Baltimore County beginning next week.
The Maryland State Highway Administration will begin milling, patching, and resurfacing approximately one-mile of MD 702 from Middleborough Road to Back River Neck Road, including the roundabout at Hyde Park Road, starting on Monday, June 3. This project is expected to last until mid-summer, weather permitting.
Travelers should expect temporary daytime lane closures on the mainline of MD 702 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Once the main work is complete, overnight work will continue on the Hyde Park Road roundabout to re-surface the roundabout. These overnight detours will take effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Drivers will be diverted away from the MD 702/Hyde Park Road roundabout at the approaches to the roundabout. The detours will take drivers along MD 702, Turkey Point Road, Hyde Park Road, and S. Marlyn Avenue.
Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium, has been awarded the contract as the State Highway Administration’s contractor for this project. This contractor will be using portable digital message boards to alert drivers of upcoming work and detours as well as temporary traffic signs, barrels, and cones to direct travelers through the work zone and detour routes.
