Cockeysville landfill closed after police find possible human remains

UPDATE 2: While autopsy results are still pending, authorities believe the body parts that were found were “improperly discarded medical waste.”

UPDATE: All possible human remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and an autopsy is pending. Detectives meanwhile remain focused on identifying the origin of the possible remains and determining whether the circumstances that surround the case are criminal in nature.

COCKEYSVILLE, MD—Homicide detectives from the Baltimore County Police Department are currently investigating the discovery of possible human remains that were found at the Baltimore County Refuse/Recycling Center on Beaver Dam Road on Monday.

Officers responded to the Cockeysville landfill at around 9 a.m. on May 20th.

The center receives trash and recycling items from multiple jurisdictions and will be closed for the rest of the day.
