Edgewood woman charged after setting parents’ house on fire

EDGEWOOD, MD—An Edgewood woman has been charged with arson after she intentionally set her parents’ home on fire late Friday night while they were out of the country.

At around 11:30 p.m. on May 10, 2024, crews were called to the 600-block of Mulberry Lane for an automatic fire alarm. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house. When they entered the home, they discovered no one home and a fire inside a bedroom.

It took firefighters around 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. Deputies with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office received information indicating that an occupant (and daughter of the owners, who also lived at the home) called other family members and threatened to burn their homes in Baltimore County.

Investigators worked throughout the night and concluded that the owners’ daughter, Lorpu Mulbah, 35, had intentionally set the fire.

Mulbah’s parents returned to the United States and convinced her to turn herself in. Mulbah was charged with first-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and arson threat.

She is currently being held without bond at Harford County Detention Center.
