BALTIMORE, MD—The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) finds itself in a tough spot, as the facility has more dogs in the shelter than it has kennel space to house them.
As a result, BARCS is waiving the adoption fees for all animals at the shelter from Thursday, April 18 through Sunday, April 21, 2024.
BARCS is the open-admission shelter for Baltimore City and is not able to turn away new animals, even if their cages are full. Dog intakes at BARCS are up 24% from last year and 71% in the last two years.
The shelter has hundreds of healthy, happy adoptable dogs that need homes, and they are at risk for euthanasia otherwise.
BARCS is located at 2490 Giles Road in Baltimore and is open from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on weekends. Fees are waived for animals in foster and at adoption events this weekend as well.
