Woman, dog killed in overnight Dundalk fire caused by discarded smoking materials

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Barbara Spokus, of the 3100-block of Shortway in Dundalk.

DUNDALK, MD—One person has died and another is in critical condition following an overnight fire in Dundalk.

At just after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, crews responded to a house fire in the 3100-block of Shortway (21222).



The Baltimore County Fire Department reports that an adult female died in the fire and an adult male is in critical condition.  A dog has also died.

Officials say the blaze was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

the identity of the victim has not yet been released.
