Baltimore County detective receives National Life Do Good Heroes Award

TOWSON, MD—National Life Group recently announced Baltimore County Police Department Detective Tyler Rivers as the recipient of the 2024 National Life Do Good Heroes Award. Sponsored by the National Life Group Foundation, this award program honors fire rescue and police personnel and departments who perform community service activities above and beyond their public safety duty.

Rivers was nominated by Ryan Behnken of Worthington Financial Partners for his commitment to service above and beyond the call of duty. He has been a member of the Baltimore County Police Department since October 2013.

Early in his career, he began participating in the Special Olympics of Maryland’s Law Enforcement Torch Run, a fundraiser where law enforcement officers run, as a group, with Special Olympics athletes. The funds raised are used to provide those with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sporting events at the local, state, and national levels.

Rivers saw the impact of his involvement on the Special Olympics athletes and looked for other ways to contribute. Since 2018, he has coordinated the Baltimore County Police Department’s Special Olympics fundraising activities. The department has raised $40,000 since Detective Rivers began his tenure as fundraising coordinator.

“I’d like to recognize Tyler’s dedication to serving his community and going above and beyond his to make a positive impact,” said Behnken. “This recognition is a testament to his hard work and commitment to making a difference. I’m honored to nominate Tyler for this award and recognize his service to the community”.

As a Do Good Heroes award winner, Rivers will receive $500 to donate to Special Olympics Maryland. He will be recognized during a celebration on March 20th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Public Safety Building in Towson.
