Baltimore County police searching for leads in 1997 cold case homicide

ARBUTUS, MD—The sketch of a 1997 homicide suspect may be the key to solving the murder of 46-year-old Yang Yoon on January 21, 1997.

At approximately 9 p.m., officers with the Baltimore County Police Department responded to a robbery and shooting at Selma’s Liquor Store located at 4602 Washington Boulevard (21227). When officers arrived at the scene, they located Yoon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medics transported Yoon to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses provided detectives with details about Yoon’s involvement. They told detectives Yoon was in the store’s basement when the suspects entered the store with the intent to rob it. A struggle ensued after Yoon ran upstairs and confronted the suspects. During the struggle, Yoon was shot.

The two suspects were last seen fleeing the scene in a small newer model car that was the color green.

A witness who saw the suspects before the robbery was able to provide a detailed description of one of the suspects, which led to a composite sketch being completed.
