Flood Watch issued for Friday night in Baltimore area

BALTIMORE, MD—The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Baltimore area.

The watch will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12 until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

A period of moderate to locally heavy rain is expected ahead of a cold front, beginning late Friday afternoon and continuing through Friday evening before ending overnight.

Rainfall amounts of around 0.75 to 1.5 inches are likely with localized amounts of around 2 inches possible. Most of the rain will fall in a 3 – 6-hour period on Friday evening.

The locally heavy rain combined with already-saturated soil may cause excess runoff leading to flooding of streams and creeks, as well as potential flooding in urban and low-lying areas.
