PIKESVILLE, MD—A suspect is dead after he was shot by police while pointing a gun at officers in Baltimore County on Tuesday.
At just before 11:30 a.m. on January 9, officers with the Baltimore County Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call for a domestic disturbance involving a male with a gun in the 400-block of Reisterstown Road.
When authorities arrived at the location, they were told the suspect had left the location on foot. As officers were canvassing the area, officers located the suspect inside a nearby gas station, at which time the suspect pointed his weapon at the officers.
The police officers were able to retreat outside the gas station where they formed a barricade.
The suspect sustained life-threatening injuries after exiting the location and engaging officers.
Authorities rendered emergency medical aid. A total of three Baltimore County Police officers discharged their firearms. All three members were equipped with body-worn cameras. The injured subject was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers or other members of the public were injured during this incident. One handgun was recovered near the suspect.
Members of the Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General will be investigating this officer-involved shooting. The officers are on administrative leave, as is standard protocol.
