2.3-magnitude earthquake rattles Maryland

ROCKVILLE, MD—An earthquake rattled the state of Maryland overnight.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the 2.3-magnitude quake struck approximately 3 km west of Rockville at a depth of about 15 km at 12:51 a.m. EST on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.



There have been no reports of any damage, but USGS has received over 1,000 reports from residents who felt the minor temblor.
